We were slogging along in the Cairo airport like cattle when along came The Others, fresh off the plane from Jordan. Hugs and laughs then flight comparisons (both flights landed on however many left wheels a plane has) and then we were whisked in separate cars to our hotel/home for the next three nights.
The Husband and I battled a housefly for two hours and then we changed rooms. No, silly, not because of the fly. Our first room had no air conditioning. Around 2am we finally went to bed.
We have a guide now who is assigned to our group. His name is Ahmed and he is very effervescent. He calls us Habibis. Along with Ahmed are an untold number of Mohammeds (okay the number is 3), who will accompany us for the next eleven days.
Ahmed loves history. The only D I ever “earned” (D- if we’re being honest) was in history. So at the end of the day when I told The Husband I was having a hard time following Ahmed’s stories, The Husband’s response was only that I was some sort of Neurodivergent when it came to history. I took no offense. I sometimes get “King Richard III” correct in European history but mostly because when someone asks “who”, I punch the buzzer and yell, “Richard the third!”
While The Others were listening intently to Ahmed’s stories about Mohammad (not the boxer) Ali and the kings of Egypt, I was having my own neurodivergent fun.
Following are pics from the Grand Mosque and the Egyptian Museum today. No dates are included. I can get The Others (Sandy, Dana or Lynn) to write that out for you as they were taking pictures of the actual lecture displays and also taking notes.
First was the Grand Mosque:

The afternoon was a trip to the Egyptian Museum (where King Tut’s tomb items are displayed but no photos allowed)

Tomorrow the ancient Pyramids (I believe that means they are super old).
Ps We crashed a wedding tonight

It’s too bad no photos were allowed of King Tut’s stuff, as I would have liked seeing statues of ancient Egyptian royalty sitting on blocks of stone.

It was really cool. Not sure why no pics though.

Uh, I was being tongue-in-cheek, thinking you were being the same. So I take it the photos you posted were not actually from King Tut. Well, tut-tut.

Aha! There was a controlled inside gallery where they didn’t allow photos (and I obeyed).

I haven’t seen a blog post from you in ages, Alison. Found this series tonight and worked my way backwards to start with what I hope is Day 1. This is going to be fun!

Oh, thanks for noticing I’ve been gone. Just had a bit of a creative drought but it usually comes to me when traveling. I look forward to catching up on your posts when we get stateside. How’s the book coming along?

Thanks for asking about my historical novel. I’m very impressed that you remembered I was writing one! I would like to say it’s coming along “slowly, but surely” but it’s more like “slowly.” I work on it in spurts, which is no way to write novel! I have good intentions…. In the meantime, have a blast on your trip. I hope to read the rest of your installments tomorrow.

My first reply disappeared, so I’ll try again. Thank you for asking about my book! I can’t believe you remembered I was writing an historical novel. I would like to say its coming along “slowly but surely” but it would be more accurate to just say “slowly.” I work on it in spurts, which is no way to write a novel! Enjoy the rest of your trip. I hope to read the rest of your installments tomorrow. Take care.

Oh, yes. I remember you had it written and then scrapped it to start over. Keep plugging, it will be great to read someday.
