It’s officially Nate’s birthday. Mark got word from an Uber driver that having a brass band herald you throughout the day was pure hedonism, so we decided to give this to Nate. When he got off the plane that we took this morning to Abu Simbel we bugled, when he got in the transport bus we added more brass instruments. We did it when he came and when he went all day.
Abu Simbel! The site of the temple of Ramses II. Around 1960 the Egyptians, with the help of the rest of the wool-ed (Ahmed speak), took the temple apart piece by piece and moved it up and back to accommodate a new lake being formed by a dam. An engineering marvel.

Back on the bus (this time we added some cowbell and cymbals to Nate’s serenade) and back to our boat all in about 6 hours.

This afternoon we bussed to the Old Cataract Hotel for High Tea. Stunning sunset and a tour of the famous 1902 Restaurant. When we were leaving the hotel there was a flautist in the lobby so when Nate came in we didn’t have to do a thing.

Happy birthday, Mikey! (Because…he likes it! Hey, Mikey! IYKYN)
