Tudo Bem (Lisbon, Portugal, Day 2)

Ah, blissful is the sleep that comes after jet lag. One goes in and out of conscious thought, unsure of time or place. The twin beds smashed together like a king is also disorienting. Where’s my husband? And where’s the bathroom?

First thing this morning, (well, after I did my Wordle, Quordle, French Wordle, Anagrams, and Duo Lingo) we went…

Back to the Big Red Bus.

Listen. We might splurge for business class seats on the airline and room service at the hotel but when our 34€ bus ticket says it’s good for 24-hours, we will not stand down at hour 21. No, sir. So we took a two hour tour around the bigger perimeter of Lisbon today.

The architecture is an amazing conglomerate of old (ancient) and new, modest and loud, shiny and decrepit. They are also known for their lovely tile work on buildings, bridges and interiors.

We found the homeless today (and the graffiti and the litter). Public housing had a view of the bay. Not nothing.

It’s The Husband’s birthday today! Unlike yesterday when the jet lag had me as mean as a heroine addict in detox, today I am going to be nothing but sugar and sunshine. He wanted to go to St George’s castle and I said ‘yes’. (I can do this!)

The Husband found north today (unlike yesterday when we passed this only-yellow- building-on-the-street 4 times and each time he said it was a different yellow building).

Back at our hotel we found a bottle of wine from the hotel and a bottle of bubbly and cake from our tour guides. The Husband and I are coming off dry June, July and (damp) August so it’s ON!

Tomorrow golf! Can’t wait.
