We golfed for the last time in Portugal yesterday. Of course for our bus ride there, The Husband and Kate saved each other seats like first graders on a field trip.
Five of 16 people have been sick. We all have to ride the bus today to Spain so it’s just a matter of time before The Husband and I go down. The finger food tapas lunch we had yesterday won’t have helped.
Portugal has treated us well. The Portuguese people have all spoken perfect English. We’ve tried to say thank you in Portuguese but it’s been a failure:
- Obrigato! -No. That’s Japanese
- Obrigado! – No. The end sounds like ‘ooh’
- Obrigado? (With ooh sound) -No. that’s what a man would say.
- Mother of God
I tied for first place in our Stableford scoring yesterday (non-golfers: points for bogey and better) but Sharron won in a scorecard playoff. Kate and The Husband announced they both scored the same and that they both had an aunt named Myrtle to which I guess the rest of us were to gasp and guess them long lost siblings?
I’ve gained some of my pre-Karl weight back. The bag o’ gym I brought just sits and mocks me as I eat another chocolate covered breadstick. The Husband has just let me know that he’s lost a pound. I have the urge to jab him in the throat like I’ve seen in Kung-Fu movies but then he brings me coffee in bed.
I’ll leave you photos from yesterday’s golf round at the Monte Rei Golf Club in eastern Algarve. It is a Jack Nicklaus signature course which is consistently rated number 1 in Portugal.
Obrigada, Portugal. I do hope we meet again someday.

So many beautiful photos. We visited Portugal a few months ago, and I found that some aspects of their language, such as pronunciation, particularly nasal sounds and closed vowels, and certain grammar points, can be quite challenging. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

Portuguese as a language kicked my booty. I know French plus a little Spanish and Italian and I simply could not speak or understand Portuguese. Lovely people and country though and would love to go back. Thanks for the comment.
