Don’t Drink the Water but Do Step Into Traffic (Day 2, Saigon)

When we checked into our hotel two nights ago, the desk clerk’s last statement to us was, “Don’t drink the tap water” so the next day The Husband brought me coffee in bed prepared from tap water. The dysentery window has closed but I’ve still got time for the giardia. Thus, the first shame card of the trip has been dealt (mine to cash or cancel-out at any point in the trip).

To be fair, the warning didn’t say don’t use for making coffee

Our very first conversation at the airport with our greeter JayJay was him telling us we are lucky to arrive on a weekend because traffic is not too bad. JayJay’s an asshole because traffic is horrible. Crossing the street the first time requires the steeliness of a gladiator. After a few times you find yourself just looking straight ahead and marching into traffic. In other words ignoring all human instinct.

Taken just before Cap got brushed by a scooter. He didn’t even flinch.

It has been great to now because we’ve been on our own which is my kind of travel. But today we met with AK for our briefing from AMA Waterways.

Yay

Cue the headphones and the tour guides. Group travel. It’s why I drink.

Photos from today’s tour of the Presidential Palace and the War Remnants Museum. Can’t say more than that because The Husband has asked me to behave while we are here in beautiful, communist, unified, Vietnam:
