Back when tigers used to smoke (Korean saying—isn’t it lovely?), The Husband (then The Boyfriend) and I took a trip to Cancun. He didn’t speak Spanish but believed that if he rolled his Rs and spoke slowly, he would be understood. Strawberry is English. Strrrraw-berrrrry is Spanish.
We snorkeled one day, and I struggled massively with getting my goggles just right. The next day, I stood in a shallow pool of water, then gracefully (my blog, my rules) lowered my face into the water. But when I raised my face, my goggles had filled with so much water that I could see it.
The Boyfriend used hand gestures to show me where the waterline was on my mask, saying slowly and deliberately, with perfect enunciation: “You have WAT-ERRRRR in your GOG-GLES,” to which I nearly screamed, “I speak ENG-LISH, and I’m not DEAF!”
Married him anyway.

Here we are at the Great Barrier Reef. What a splendid and magical place. The water is that turquoise blue you see at Disneyland. We took a boat to some coral reefs and spent the afternoon snorkeling. No one had an underwater camera, so you’ll just have to trust me that the fish and the coral were amazing.

I didn’t get water in my goggles because I resized them to those of a 3-year-old. I had to quit early because my face was about to explode.
But it was lovely.

I think that’s pretty cool to have wild cockatoos flying about. I also like the sign. But if one of those feathered friends were to enter my room, I guess I’d have to smother it with a pillow and flush it down the toilet.

Not an ornithologist then, are you? The cockatoos are insanely assertive.

Maybe they drink too many cockatails.

Not even kidding, I still have the scar this morning. Can’t wait to see your two smiling faces in Sydney.
