Fun with Dick and Jane

Paris, Feb 7

In Paris they just simply opened their eyes and stared when we spoke to them in French! We never did succeed in making those idiots to understand their own language.–Mark Twain

My French skills are strikingly similar in style and cadence to the classic children’s book, Fun with Dick & Jane: See Dick. See Dick run. Run, Dick, run! Run, run, run! I hate to leave my readers hanging. After all that running, he then falls in some leaves and it’s: Oh, Dick, oh. Funny, funny Dick. Oh, oh, oh. (You want more than that you’re gonna need to buy the book).

By way of illustration, we ate dinner at the wonderful Robert & Louise restaurant in the Marais last night and when my meal was cleared I stammered something like: Oh! C’est bon! C’est un bon repas. Bon bon repas. Merci pour le bon repas. Bon, Bon, Bon.

Today we walked to the Louvre and the Tuileries Gardens. The first Sunday of the month is free museum Sunday.  Gadzooks! Look at that line!image

We then rode the Ferris wheel at the Tuileries:image

And ended with a classic hot chocolate at Angelina’s.

It was good. Oh, so good. Good, good, good. The day was so good.
